Chemical modification of nitrocellulose by grafting sodium carboxymethyl

Introducing deterrents improves the thermal stability of nitrocellulose propellant surface, but is accompanied with inevitable problems, such as migration, residue, smoke flame, and so on. In this paper, sodium carboxymethyl function groups were chemically grafted to molecular chains by reaction denitration following etherification, which provided stability, flame suppression ion without deterrent migration. Various structure characterizations conducted confirmed carboxymethyl-nitrocellulose (CMNC) was prepared successfully. The number linked affected both etherification. results analysis showed that CMNC improved increase bearing better than original NC sample. Meanwhile, decomposition behaviors products are similar at temperature first DTG peak Tmax CMC temperatures second T2. This work a way for designing gun progressive burning, anti-migration simultaneously.
